Barsur the historical city of dantewada, has the distinction of being the capital of Nagavasi kings. It is 23 km from Geedam in Jagdalpur Dantewada road. The family of Lord Shiva is established in this ancient temple in the name of Mama-Bhanja. It is said that this temple was built by two artisans in a single day. These craftspersons were Mama or uncle and Bhanja or nephew. This is because this temple is called Mama-Bhanja Temple.
The mandapa of the temple, however, has succumbed to the ravages of time. There is an image of Ganesh on the lalatabimba (lintel). The adhishthana and the door jambs are decorated with excellent carvings of foliage, lotuses etc. It is 16 meter in height with a well preserved imposing curvilinear Sikhara over the sanctum. An inscription in Telgu characters datable to the 13th Century A.D. is found on the temple platform 1-2. This temple has several sculptures.
